I'd like to see some beginner friendly guide to set up a homeserver. I mostly consume media like pdfs, ebooks, songs, movies, tv-shows, etc. I also want a couple of niche things like a git server, some sort of smart home automation thing (read TODO's from org files kinda) and smart photo/video cataloguing (basically memories on my end).

>>OP Not a complete guide, but the software I use for home media servers is Jellyfin (https://jellyfin.org/). It's FOSS and works on all major Linux distros out of the box and I hear it is possible (though not as straightforward) to run on FreeBSD.
